Aunt Elvi Mikkola Primary School

A quality education for the poorest children.

In Rukungiri, southwestern Uganda, over 400 children attend a school that reaches out to the poorest families. Many walk long distances from their villages to get there.

Then, now and next

A school that runs on the gifts of others.

The school relies totally on gifts to keep running. Thanks to many generous supporters it has come a long way, but there is still a way to go.

Then

Mud walls, thin cement

The buildings were made from mud with a thin layer of cement and paint over them, and were not very strong.

Now

A girls’ dormitory, opened 2021

Funded by Windows of Hope. In 2023, all 391 children met visitors at the gate singing and holding welcome signs.

Next

A boys’ dormitory and a library

The boys’ dormitory is still a prayer request, and the library needs books for every grade.

Library Book Drive

A school library plays a vital role in the life of a student. The goal of Aunt Elvi Mikoola Primary School’s library, the Fannie Rountree-Holloway Library, is to be a store house of knowledge, exhibiting positive impact on the academic achievement of the student.

The work of Windows of Hope continues. With your support, we have experienced wonderful progress at Aunt Elvi through the years. Our goal this year is to raise $3,000 to stock the library with books for students from grades 1-7, as well as, reading books for the nursery children. Can we count on your financial support?

The first buildings were made from mud with a thin layer of cement and paint over them, and were not very strong. Windows of Hope funded a girls’ dormitory, opened in 2021.

The boys’ dormitory is still a prayer request. Your gift helps replace weak mud structures with strong, safe buildings for the children.
